Description
This painting was inspired by the view of humanity as the people of God. The rounded globes here represent two things the apostles and humanity- the followers of Christ. The globes are not perfect shperes because humanity is not perfect. There is also a 13th oval globe in the left hand side that represents Mary Magdalene who would have been with Jesus and the apostles for Passover. Judas is represented by the pentagon. Jesus is represented by the inverted triangle. The triangle is traditionally used to represent God the Father so I invert it to represent Jesus to show that Jesus is both divine and human. The setting of the painting takes place in an upper room. In that time the upper room was traditionally built a top of the roof of the home and not actually a room on the second floor and they would have used circular tables rather than a large rectangular table. I also chose to use a stone chalice as it is more likely that this would have been used for the supper. In the door frame you will also see blood spread across the frame. This is to represent the reference from Exodus to spread the blood of a lamb on the door and the angel of death would know to Passover the home and save the people that reside in the home. It is also to represent that Jesus is the new Lamb of God that will save his people.
